What you have to realize is he runs a business. 1g's may be the faster platform...but they are old. And the people who spend bucks on them is dwindling. With Ebay and DIY'ers 1g's and even 2g's are no longer a big money maker anymore. EVOs are where the money is now.
Also his luck with 1g's is kinda bad. The original broke more parts known to man and never made it to the 10s. The RWD was a sucess but was only 1/2 a 1g. His Hugger Orange 1g was a bit of a failure as it never ran the desired times consistantly and was always broke too. Now we as a community have changed and learned to drive these cars better and not break as often. At least not until we start making serious power. And with ATs really coming into their own, this is a good move on his part to take advantage of the renewed interest and market for them.

I just think it's funny that dave said that the entire dsm crowd was a bunch of worthless cheapskates who couldn't afford to buy enough parts to keep his business open for more than a day and yet everyone is super excited when he decides to have another car built for him.
Keep in mind half the car is getting built at Gary Reese's shop, Dave's just footing the bill for it.

Wiz, I understand how business works. I did minor in it. I understand how DSM's do not necessarily pay the bills of a performance shop, hence the Evo push and most recently, the Mustang push. I just found it ironic that even Dave can admit that the 1G platform is still a strong and fast set up.
Mavis, I did find it quite entertaining that Gary is pretty much building the car's support system, who knows who is actually building the engine, and Dave himself is not even driving the car... Kevin is. I think this is just a poke to the bear for Dave to gain the DSM support back after he has made so many comments and negative actions towards the DSM crowd. I've never hated the guy, I do appreciate what he has contributed to the community, however, he has said some relentless shit and has even been a duschur to our club specifically.
All in all though, I am excited to see another 1G DSM deamed "RACECAR"!!!! Regardless of who built it.
